A seriously injured child is being flown to Perth on an emergency jet after multiple people were critically injured in a crash near Shark Bay on Monday.
St John WA transported four people with injuries to Monkey Mia airport after they were involved in a crash on North West Coastal Highway in Hamelin Pool about 11.30am.
It is understood two people were rushed to the airport by St John as a priority, including an injured child.
A WA Police spokeswoman said preliminary details showed “several people sustained critical injuries” after two vehicles collided.
The number of people involved in the crash is unclear.
A jet operated by the Royal Flying Doctor Service arrived at the regional airport around 3.15pm. A spokeswoman for the service said two doctors and a nurse were planning to treat the child on a flight back to Perth.
She said the specialist medical team will assess three other patients at the airstrip.
The child is scheduled to arrive at Jandakot Airport on Monday afternoon, before being admitted to Perth Children’s Hospital.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said they assisted in the emergency response.
WA Police urged the public to avoid the area.
