Police arrested alleged suspects linked to a shooting which injured a 37-year-old man, but they were released without charge while investigators examine if the incident was sparked by a separate attack days earlier.
The shooting at Hamilton Hill, near Fremantle in Perth, on Sunday set off a manhunt the man was seriously injured about 4.35am.
Police locked down the area and warned residents to stay indoors while they searched for two men believed to be responsible for the shooting
Police Commissioner Col Blanch said police believe the shooting is related to another incident at a nearby unit complex that occurred between 6pm and 7pm on Friday.
“We think … a dark-coloured Holden Commodore carrying several occupants … was allegedly driven at a person … at a man,” Mr Blanch told ABC Perth on Wednesday.
“We haven’t charged anyone at this stage, but our inquiries will continue in this investigation until we resolve it.
“We believe it’s a very confined incident between a number of parties known to each other, and based on the information we have to date, we have tracked it back to a second incident that occurred on the Friday,” he said.
Detective Brian Connelly said earlier this week that police were confident the shooting was an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat to the community.
He alleged the shooting was “targeted” and ended very quickly.
“We are confident in saying it is a targeted attack at one individual and we’re treating it as such,” he said.
“It was over within a matter of seconds,
“The person who shot the victim knew the victim.”
