Late drama defined the British Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton secured a podium finish in third for Ferrari, in a race that ultimately ended behind the safety car. Running in contention for a stronger result, Hamilton’s hopes of a top two finish were undone in the closing stages after a decisive sequence of events reshaped the order.
The turning point came when Max Verstappen crashed out with four laps remaining, triggering a safety car that neutralised the race. Ferrari chose to pit Hamilton during the caution period, a move that ultimately dropped him behind George Russell and out of contention for second place, as Charles Leclerc went on to take victory.

Despite earlier indications that the safety car might return to the pits for a final racing lap, it remained on track until the chequered flag, sealing a subdued finish to a tense Grand Prix. Russell inherited second place for Mercedes, while Hamilton completed the podium for Ferrari but was placed under investigation for a potential yellow flag infringement.
Speaking after the race, Hamilton reflected on the outcome and Ferrari’s overall performance:
“Firstly, a big, big congratulations to Charles, this is a great result for our team,” he added. “I just didn’t have it today, I jumped the start, already got a penalty and Charles had to edge on me today. I’m grateful to be up here. The team is doing a phenomenal job. Look at these results, two wins for the team this year, this is fantastic,” he said.
Meanwhile, Championship leader Kimi Antonelli’s race unraveled after a strong start from pole position. Running second and closing in on Leclerc with 11 laps remaining, the Mercedes driver reported a developing issue and soon lost pace. He eventually finished 16th, a major setback that also cut his championship lead to 25 points after nine rounds.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
