Disgraced Hollywood heavyweight Harvey Weinstein has reportedly suffered heart failure and been rushed from prison to hospital.
The Sun reports that the veteran producer was taken from New York’s Rikers Island jail for emergency treatment after he was struggling to breathe following a case of pneumonia two weeks ago. He was being held at the infamous prison in the lead-up to his sentencing in September for his sexual assault conviction last year.
He suffered heart failure linked to pneumonia, TMZ reported with sources claiming he was struggling to breathe before he was taken to Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward.
He remains in the ward, where he has been placed on an IV, connected to a heart monitor and is receiving a course of antibiotics.
It’s reported that Weinstein has substantially recovered but is “not out of the woods”.
It’s the latest in a long line of health scares for Weinstein since his incarceration amid accusations of sexual assault and misconduct.
In 2025 a poor blood test result led to another stint in Bellevue Hospital with his legal team condemning what they described as a lack of proper medical care amid “deplorable and inhumane conditions” at the New York prison.
In the previous year he was diagnosed with a bone marrow cancer variant: chronic myeloid leukaemia.
The high-profile producer was at the centre of accusations of rape and sexual assault from a number of women in the entertainment industry before he was convicted in 2020 and handed a 23-year jail term.
The conviction was overturned four years later but a 2025 retrial resulted in yet another conviction of sexual assault, for which he was due to be sentenced in September.
He has also been sentenced to 16 years jail after being convicted in Los Angeles of rape and sexual assault in 2022.
