Hayden Panettiere was reportedly found unconscious by a friend inside a South Carolina apartment before paramedics tried to resuscitate the beloved TV star.
The 36-year-old Heroes and Nashville actress was discovered “unresponsive” in the apartment just before 2pm local time on Sunday, and medics attempted to resuscitate her with “advanced cardiac life support”, TMZ reported, citing a 911 call.
The outlet reported that medical workers performed chest compressions, but Panettiere was declared dead at 2.32pm.
Police said her death has no “signs of foul play” and that she was found by an “acquaintance”.
An autopsy is set to be carried out tomorrow.
Panettiere’s father Skip announced her tragic death with “profound sadness”.
“She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” he told ABC News in a statement.
Fellow American actress Selma Blair, like the rest of the entertainment world, was left shocked and saddened by her unexpected death.
The Legally Blonde star took to Panettiere’s most recent Instagram post — shared on July 27 — to leave an emotional message for her friend.
“I love you. Don’t be gone. Don’t be gone. Please. Please,” she wrote.
“I love you, whale tail my friend.
“I’m dying. Please be here.”
Just three months ago, Panettiere revealed for the first time that she was bisexual and detailed her journey with postpartum depression and addiction.
Panettiere — who rose to international fame playing cheerleader Claire Bennet in the hit sci-fi series Heroes, which ran from 2006 to 2010 — shares a daughter, Kaya, with Ukrainian boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko.
Her younger brother Jansen Panettiere, an actor and artist born on September 25, 1994, tragically died in February 2023 at the age of 28 from an enlarged heart and aortic valve complications.
