Hayden Panettiere’s ex-fiance Wladimir Klitschko is fighting to secure their daughter’s inheritance following the tragic death of the US actress.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Klitschko has filed an “urgent” petition in a Los Angeles court to be appointed temporary guardian of their daughter, Kaya’s estate.
The legal action aims to protect the 11-year-old’s rights and manage her inheritance as the sole beneficiary of her mother’s estate.
The Heroes and Nashville star died aged 36 on August 16 after being found unresponsive at a residence in South Carolina. Her death was later ruled an accident caused by the toxic effects of multiple drugs, including fentanyl.
Panettiere shared her only child, Kaya, 11, with former professional boxer Klitschko.
Klitschko received full custody of their daughter in 2018 after Panettiere made the difficult decision to let Kaya live with her father in Ukraine, while she sought treatment for postpartum depression and personal struggles with addiction.
According to multiple US outlets, the petition states it is “urgent and essential” that Klitschko be appointed temporary guardian of Kaya’s estate so he “may receive, manage and hold” his daughter’s assets on her behalf.
In the petition, Klitschko claimed federal agents accessed Panettiere’s home as part of an ongoing investigation and removed her property.
Klitschko also alleged that, before her death, Panettiere hired a security service to protect her home and its contents, following “concern that an individual had gained unauthorised access to Hayden’s property”.
He claimed locks were changed and storage units containing designer clothing and accessories worn to public appearances have been relocated as a precaution.
While Klitschko does not state the individual’s name, he claimed “it is expected that the individual will continue to try and misappropriate property belonging to Hayden’s estate”.
“Given the high publicity of Hayden’s estate, a personal representative needs to be appointed immediately to safeguard and protect Hayden’s home and contents,” Klitschko claimed in the petition, as per TMZ.
Kaya will not only inherit the items seized or missing, but because Panettiere died without a will, she will be the sole heir to all of her mother’s properties, including an apartment in West Hollywood.
Panettiere’s parents, Lesley Vogel and Skip Panettiere, are also fighting over the late star’s jewellery that she was wearing at the time of her death, according to a Greenville County coroner’s report obtained by Page Six.
One parent wanted earrings, which were placed in a locker for safekeeping, mailed to an address in North Carolina, while the other wanted them sent to an address in California.
Panettiere was estranged from her mother, who was once her manager, for years leading up to her death.
