A safety recall has been issued for a model of car owned by thousands of Australian families due to an issue that makes the vehicles more vulnerable to accidents.
Hyundai Australia has been forced to recall more than 11,000 Tucson models after discovering a suspected software issue.
The South Korean vehicle manufacturer has discovered a malfunction in the 2025 model which may result in critical safety issues not being displayed to drivers.
The error could result in the vehicles failing to show information such as speed and fuel levels on their dashboard displays.
“Loss of safety system warnings when driving could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders,” the recall notice reads.
The recall notice applies to 11,461 vehicles registered between 2023 and 2026.
The manufacturer is set to contact owners of affected vehicles, urging them to contact their nearest Hyundai authorised dealership.
Those affected will then be able to receive an update to their vehicle software free of charge
