The countdown has begun. Apple has yet to announce anything officially, but going by its traditional launch cycle, the next-generation flagship iPhones could be just a few weeks away, with rumours pointing to a launch between 7 and 9 September. This year’s event could be particularly interesting as Apple is also expected to introduce its first-ever foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series. However, the vanilla iPhone 18, more affordable iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air are reportedly being pushed to early 2027.

That means the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could get Apple’s full attention in September. And if the rumour mill is anything to go by, there are some significant upgrades in store. Here are 10 upgrades highly anticipated with the iPhone 18 Pro series.
iPhone 18 Pro rumoured upgrades
1. Bigger batteries: Battery life could be one of the biggest upgrades. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is tipped to get a battery nearly 10 per cent larger than the current model, with leaks suggesting capacities between 5,425mAh and 5,567mAh for the eSIM version. The Pro models could also get a significant battery upgrade. The larger battery could meanwhile make the iPhone 18 Pro Max slightly thicker and heavier.
2. New A20 Pro chip: Apple upgrades its silicon every year, and this year could be no different. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to get Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, reportedly built on TSMC’s 2nm process. Moving from 3nm to 2nm could bring faster performance and better power efficiency, while improved thermal management could help the phone handle gaming, video editing and AI tasks more efficiently.
3. Variable aperture camera: Camera capabilities could also get a big boost this time around. The main 48-megapixel Fusion camera is rumoured to get a major upgrade with variable aperture, allowing users to control how much light enters the lens. This could improve low-light photography, portraits and depth effects. If it happens, it would be a first for the iPhone.
4. Better telephoto camera: Apple could also improve the Pro-exclusive telephoto camera. Reports point to a wider aperture that could help with low-light shots and potentially improve zoom photography. The telephoto camera is expected to remain exclusive to the Pro models.
5. Smaller Dynamic Island: The Dynamic Island may finally get smaller. Apple is reportedly working on moving the Face ID flood illuminator under the display, which could free up some space at the top of the screen and make the cut-out less noticeable.
6. More efficient LTPO+ displays: The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to retain their 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screen sizes. However, Apple could switch to LTPO+ display technology, bringing better power efficiency while retaining the smooth ProMotion refresh rate.
7. New C2 modem: Apple is also reportedly preparing its third-generation in-house C2 modem for the iPhone 18 Pro. The chip could bring faster 5G speeds, improved signal reliability and better efficiency. There is also talk of satellite-based 5G that could offer web access outside traditional cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
8. New N2 wireless chip: The iPhone 18 Pro could also introduce Apple’s N2 wireless chip, following the N1 used for features including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Personal Hotspot and AirDrop. The new chip is expected to improve wireless connectivity, although its exact benefits remain unclear.
9. New colours and a cleaner finish: Apple may keep the overall iPhone 17 Pro design but introduce fresh colours, including Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray and Silver. A redesigned Ceramic Shield area around MagSafe could also give the rear a more seamless frosted look.
10. A simpler Camera Control button: The Camera Control button could also change. Apple is reportedly considering removing its touch sensitivity and haptic feedback, leaving pressure-based controls.
What about the iPhone 18 Pro India price?
This year’s iPhones are reportedly getting more expensive, and the new-generation flagships are also expected to come with a higher price tag. Reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro series could cost up to Rs 20,000 more in India, while US estimates point to a $200-$300 increase. In India, iPhone 18 Pro could reportedly start at around Rs 1,54,900.
