Perth influencer Isabella Procida says she is shaken up following a terrifying Uber experience in France during which the driver attempted to take her and her female friend back to his house.
The content creator, who shares lifestyle and fashion videos with her more than 1.3M fans across social media, uploaded a TikTok video on Tuesday that showed the moment her Uber ride in Marseille turned sour.
Procida is travelling around Europe with her friend and fellow influencer Kairo Calvitto, and when the pair were riding in an Uber expecting to arrive at a beach, Procida said the trip got “dark really fast”.
Procida captured the driver asking what the duo were doing for the day, to which Calvitto said “Just going to the beach”.
The video continued to capture the driver asking the women to come back to his house. While the audio is difficult to make out, Procida explained he was “asking us back to his house so he can shower”.
“Every time we said ‘No’, he said ‘No, no, listen to me‘.”
The video showed Procida looking concerned and “thinking about how to escape this”.
“He started driving away from where we were going; before this, he was hot boxing the car and the music was up so loud we couldn’t hear each other talk and rapping,” she said. .
“After this, I called my family, and he said he is taking us home and we will go somewhere different?
“The windows were locked, but at a red light we jumped out the doors and ran.”
After she shared her scary experience, which 3.2M people have viewed, Uber responded in the video’s comments section with an apology.
“Hi Isabella, this situation is unacceptable, and we sincerely hope you’re okay,” the rideshare team said.
“We’ve escalated your report to our safety team, who will contact you for an immediate investigation. Don’t hesitate to DM us if you need anything else.”
Procida replied: “Hi thank you! We are okay; we were just really shook up by the experience and the driver.”
TikTok users came to the support of Procida, who is of Italian and Dutch descent, hoping the pair were okay and that they reported it.
“We waited to leave the city to report it, because we were scared he would come back or find us idk,” Procida said.
After some people questioned their handling of the situation, Procida said “if you make people think you’re vibing then you can escape easier”.
Procida and Uber have been contacted for comment.
