External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, discussing reformed multilateralism, the need for an effective UN Security Council, and cooperation in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and space.
Among the key engagements were the India-UAE-France trilateral, a meeting of the G4 foreign ministers, talks with Nepalese counterpart Shisir Khanal, and separate interactions with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani, the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa Lazaro, and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

Jaishankar said the India-UAE-France trilateral focused on collaboration in “the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Space, health sciences, energy and culture”. In a post on X, he said, “Our shared interests and complimentary capabilities offer immense scope for cooperation. Agreed to meet again soon to take the discussion forward.”
The foreign ministers of the G4 nations – India, Brazil, Germany and Japan – also met in New York and “discussed the imperative of reformed multilateralism and a more representative, responsive and effective UN Security Council that reflects today’s global realities”. Jaishankar said India would continue to work with the grouping “to advance this shared objective”.
He also held discussions with Nepal’s Shisir Khanal at the premises of India’s Permanent Mission to the UN. Jaishankar said the two sides “followed up on bilateral developments since our last meeting in Delhi in June this year, including progress in development partnership and energy cooperation”.
Describing it as “another busy day” at the UNGA, Jaishankar also met Sheikh Tamim, Lazaro and Wadephul. Referring to his exchange with the German foreign minister, he said, “We exchanged assessments on the ongoing Ukraine and Gulf crises. As G4 partners, our cooperation at the @UN and other multilateral fora remains robust.”
The meetings on the UNGA sidelines covered multilateral reform, regional crises and bilateral cooperation, with Jaishankar underlining continued coordination with partners across key sectors and forums.
