Around 70 kg of soy sauce and other sauces nearing their expiry dates were seized from food storage facilities supplying hotels in Bengaluru during a special food safety inspection drive on August 8.
The inspections were carried out by the Food Safety Wing of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department across Bengaluru Urban district and all zones under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The drive was undertaken under the guidance of Health Minister U T Khader and in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Rules, 2011.
30 TEAMS CARRY OUT INSPECTIONS
As part of the drive, 30 teams comprising Designated Officers and Food Safety Officers were deployed to inspect food storage facilities across Bengaluru.
The facilities supply food materials, mutton and fish to national and international hotels and other caterers in the city.
Officials inspected the storage and distribution centres of Coldman Logistics Private Limited and Radhakrishna Foodland Limited, which supply food products to several reputed hotel establishments in Bengaluru.
The inspections focused on the storage, quality and safety measures followed at the facilities.
NEAR-EXPIRY SAUCES, BEVERAGES SEIZED
During the inspections, officials found approximately 70 kg of soy sauce and various other sauces that were nearing their expiry dates.
The products were seized and confiscated.
Officials also seized and confiscated around 10 litres of beverages, including strawberry-flavoured drinks and other beverages that were nearing their expiry dates.
FOOD SAMPLES SENT FOR ANALYSIS
The inspection teams also collected five meat samples and 13 other food samples from the facilities.
The samples have been sent for analysis to assess their quality and safety.
The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department said appropriate legal action would be initiated against food business operators found violating food safety and quality requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Rules, 2011.
