After receiving numerous complaints from the public about officers workers themselves violating road safety laws while enforcing the law, Bengaluru: Karnataka Police have directed all officers and workers to strictly adhere to traffic laws.
On August 1, the Customers and Road Safety Wing’s deputy director general of police Prabhushankar issued a nationwide round to all police departments to ensure that all officers and staff, both on and off duty, adhere strictly to traffic regulations when operating official or personal vehicles.
The round states that police officers are in charge of enforcing traffic laws, upholding road rules, and taking legal action against offenders. However, there have been numerous cases where police officers have been discovered driving without hats, using mobile phones while driving, triple-riding on two-wheelers, driving vehicles in no-parking areas, driving on the wrong area of one-way streets, and not wearing seat belts when driving.
Numerous video of police officers breaking customers regulations have been circulated on social media and received extensive media coverage of their detention. The office has acknowledged that these situations have a negative impact on the police force’s reputation and people distrust of law enforcement.
The Customers and Road Safety Wing has issued a significant warning to all state police departments about the importance of educating staff and officers about the importance of upholding the law by setting an example for them.
Senior officials are also instructed to follow the circular’s instructions to follow strict traffic regulations and take appropriate action when they notice any violations. The department hopes that the move will spread awareness about traffic safety and strengthen the message that all traffic laws, including those involving police personnel, are extremely applicable.
