A major error was reported in a question paper issued by Kerala University during a second-semester BSc Statistics examination, after part of an answer was mistakenly printed alongside one of the questions.

The incident occurred during the BSc second-semester Statistics examination held on Monday. One of the questions asked, “How are the variables ‘amount of exercise a person does’ and ‘their weight’ correlated?” However, the words “Negatively correlated” were printed directly below the question.

After the error came to light, Kerala University sought an explanation from the Chairperson of the Board of Studies.

The Controller of Examinations has also sought a report from the Board of Studies Chairperson. The report will be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor, who will decide on further action.

According to university officials, question papers are prepared from a question bank after being scrutinised by teachers. Authorities believe the incident may have been a printing error, resulting in part of the answer being inadvertently printed along with the question.

The university has initiated an inquiry into the lapse and will decide on further action after receiving the report from the Board of Studies.
