The incident took place at the Sawan Mahotsav in Smileganj, Indiranagar. Fourteen-year-old Ankita Singh, a resident of Vibhuti Khand, had visited the fair with her brother Surya Singh, sister Nancy and friends at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday.
According to Surya, they were riding the amusement ride when a bucket suddenly broke off from above and fell directly onto Ankita’s face. The impact was so severe that Ankita suffered serious injuries and began bleeding, triggering panic among those on the ride.
Injured Nancy and Surya said that immediately after the accident, they pleaded with the ride operator to stop the machine. However, they alleged that the operator failed to stop the ride immediately.
As the ride continued to move, the broken part struck Nancy, Surya and another girl sitting nearby, identified as 16-year-old Nisha Kumari, among others. The ride was eventually stopped after people began shouting and creating a commotion, but by then five people had been injured.
The victims’ families alleged that the fair organiser was caught at the spot after the accident but managed to escape.
According to Sushma Hospital CEO Arpit Singhal, the accident took place directly opposite the hospital, following which the emergency team was immediately alerted. All five injured people were brought to the hospital.
Three of them were discharged after receiving first aid, while Ankita and Nisha remain under treatment. Doctors said one of the injured girls suffered multiple fractures, while further treatment will be decided after the remaining medical reports are received.
Police said the matter is currently under investigation.
