A man has been left without a car or licence after allegedly smashing his mum’s white Toyota into a bridge while triple the legal alcohol limit in Melbourne’s south east.

Witnesses called police about 10am Saturday after a 22-year-old Pakenham man was allegedly seen speeding along Irving Rd near Falling Water Drive in Pakenham.

The driver then allegedly lost control of his car and mounted the nature strip.

The car was then allegedly sent through the air before taking out several metal bollards and finally crashing into a bridge pylon.

The driver allegedly fled the scene on foot, launching a police search of the nearby area.

Police said they found the man hiding in a nearby relative’s home, and took him into custody.

He was breath-tested and allegedly returned a reading of .15.

“He was also found to be driving on a suspended licence and a search of the vehicle (allegedly) located a small quantity of cocaine,” a police statement read.

The Pakenham man was released and is expected to be charged on summons with drunk driving and other traffic-related offences.

“Perhaps the worst penalty of all will be explaining to his mum that she no longer has a car,” police said.
