A man was shot at least twicein a “targeted attack” in front of his terrified partner on the NSW Central Coast.
The 37-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to his hand and torso on Lakedge Ave, Berkeley Vale at about 6.15am on Wednesday.
The man was rushed to a waiting Westpac Rescue Helicopter and flown to hospital in a serious condition.
Police are now asking to speak with the driver of a silver GWM four-wheel-drive ute with roof racks and a roll bar that was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.
Tuggerah Lakes Police District Commander Superintendent Chad Gillies said police were yet to determine the motivation behind the shooting or whether there were any gang links.
He said investigators were speaking to witnesses, including the man’s partner who was inside the house at the time.
“We believe at this stage that there was one occupant inside that car responsible for the shooting, described as a male, late teens to early 20s, wearing a balaclava,” Supt Gillies said.
“Our investigation is focused on identifying that vehicle and locating that vehicle, and clearly seeking information from members of the public in relation to identifying the person or persons responsible.”
Supt Gillies said shootings were a “rare occurrence” in the area, and his “number one priority” would be bringing the individual responsible to justice.
“Of course, it’s an absolute concern when people are brandishing firearms and using them in these sorts of situations,” he said.
“I’m not prepared at this stage to elaborate whether this is linked to anything else, obviously that will be a major part of the investigation going forward.
A crime scene has been established and investigations are ongoing.
