A manhunt is underway after a person allegedly tried to remove a piece of corpse during a viewing at a Queensland funeral home.

Police were called to Swanborough Funerals at Browns Plain, in Brisbane’s south, about 1pm on Friday.

Swanborough Funerals Director Esther Swanborough told Nine News a family was at the funeral home for a body viewing.

She was asked to leave the room during the viewing and when she returned the family members were acting “very suspicious.”

Ms Swanborough reportedly noticed someone had tried to remove a piece of the corpse and called police.

“For cultural reasons, they asked me to leave the room,” she said.

“When I came back in, they were acting very suspicious, and I said to them, ‘What have you done?’

“I was shocked that this has happened. We’ve never seen anything like this before.

“We obviously, during this whole process, had the best intentions to be able to care for this family well, not realising that we were being tricked into something very different.”

Queensland Police have been contacted for comment.
