JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk PHEV in India at Rs 25.69 lakh (ex-showroom), alongside the all-electric version of its new SUV. The plug-in hybrid SUV is being positioned as India’s first PHEV in the mainstream SUV segment. Bookings have opened today, with deliveries scheduled to begin in November 2026.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a dedicated 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. The engine develops 102Bhp and 125Nm, while the permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor produces 201Bhp and 237Nm. The powertrain uses a dedicated hybrid transmission.

MG claims an all-electric range of more than 115km, while the combined range with a fully charged battery and a full 52-litre fuel tank is rated at over 1,100km. The company has engineered the dedicated hybrid engine for a claimed 43.2 per cent thermal efficiency, while the dedicated hybrid transmission has a claimed 98.8 per cent transmission efficiency. The final range certification is still awaited.
The PHEV’s hybrid system offers six drive modes. In Pure EV mode, the battery powers the electric motor for emissions-free driving. Series Hybrid mode uses the engine to generate electricity while the motor drives the wheels, making it suited to stop-and-go traffic. Parallel Hybrid mode combines the engine and motor for additional performance, while Regeneration mode recovers energy during deceleration. Pure Engine mode sends engine power directly to the wheels, while Engine Drive + Charge mode allows the engine to drive the wheels while charging the battery.
Charging and battery
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV comes with a 20.5kWh battery and uses a CCS2 charging connection. MG says the battery can be charged from 10 to 100 per cent in around 7.5 hours using a 3.3kW AC charger. Using a 25kW DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 30 to 80 per cent in around 35 minutes. The SUV supports a maximum DC charging rate of 25kW.
The company says the battery has undergone more than 2,000 bench tests and over 490 vehicle-level tests, including testing in extreme conditions. The SUV also gets regenerative braking to recover energy while slowing down or travelling downhill.
Seven-seat only
Unlike the Hector Tomahawk EV, which is available in both five- and seven-seat layouts, the PHEV is offered exclusively with three rows and seven seats. It measures 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width excluding mirrors and 1,770mm in height, with a 2,810mm wheelbase.
Boot space is rated at 192 litres with all three rows in use, increasing to 528 litres with the third row folded. The SUV rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and gets a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension.
Features and technology
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV gets a long list of technology and convenience features, including a panoramic cockpit sunroof, ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate and a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function.
The dashboard houses a 39.6cm (15.6-inch) Grand View touchscreen, while the SUV also gets a 32.5cm (12.8-inch) touchscreen, an Infinity premium sound system and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. MG also offers its i-SMART connected-car technology with a Gen AI-powered voice assistant, 30-plus Hinglish voice commands, remote AC controls, remote lock/unlock, scheduled charging, charging-station search and over-the-air updates.
The SUV also features MG’s connected entertainment ecosystem, including the Starmaanch Karaoke app, Jio Sphere, Jio Games, online music and other connected applications. The 39.6cm display is claimed to be the largest in its segment, while the Gen AI-powered system includes access to more than 8,000 karaoke tracks.
Safety and ADAS
Safety equipment includes six airbags as standard, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, brake assist, four-wheel disc brakes, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and a tyre-pressure monitoring system.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV also gets a Level 2 ADAS package with functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian AEB, traffic jam assist and intelligent headlamp control. MG says the SUV has 11 ADAS functions in total.
Other safety and parking features include front and rear parking sensors, a reverse parking camera and a 360-degree HD camera with transparent chassis and wheel-view functions.
MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV price and BaaS
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available in two variants, both with the seven-seat configuration. The Exclusive variant is priced at Rs 25.69 lakh, while the higher-spec Essence variant costs Rs 27.79 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
MG is also offering the Hector Tomahawk PHEV through its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership programme. Under this scheme, the Exclusive variant is priced at Rs 21.79 lakh, with a battery rental charge of Rs 3.20 per km. The Essence variant costs Rs 23.89 lakh under BaaS, again with a battery rental charge of Rs 3.20 per km.
The company says the battery rental is separate from charging costs, while other applicable taxes, surcharges and fees are borne by the customer. The BaaS programme is applicable to privately registered vehicles.
MG is also offering an ownership package with three years of unlimited vehicle warranty, three years of roadside assistance, three labour-free services and a lifetime warranty on the high-voltage battery for the first private owner, subject to the stated terms and conditions.
With its combination of a relatively large battery, more than 115km of claimed electric range, a petrol engine for longer journeys and a seven-seat layout, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV is aimed at buyers looking for an alternative to both conventional petrol SUVs and fully electric three-row models.
