The mother of a newborn boy found dead in a rubbish bin outside a unit complex in Auburn, in Sydney’s western suburbs, has been identified by police.
The baby was found on August 31. Detective acting Superintendent Darren Sly said at the time that the newborn may have been in the bin for up to 36 hours.
Detectives identified the mother after an exhaustive review of CCTV footage, and a wide appeal for information in the area.
The 24-year-old was taken to hospital by police on Tuesday. She is being questioned by detectives but has not been arrested.
