A six-year-old girl was rescued from an alleged abduction attempt near her home in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram on Sunday after her mother raised an alarm and residents chased down the suspect.
The girl was playing in front of her house when a young man allegedly picked her up and began running away. Her mother, Kavitha, spotted him carrying the child and gave chase, shouting for help.

Hearing her cries, residents joined the pursuit. They followed the man to a nearby agricultural field, where they caught him and rescued the girl.
Residents allegedly assaulted the suspect and tied him to a tree before handing him over to police.
Villupuram Taluk Police reached the spot and took him into custody. Preliminary inquiry suggests that he is from another state. His identity and the motive behind the alleged abduction attempt are yet to be established.
Police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
