A 30-year-old Indian Navy sailor, his wife and their two young children were found dead inside their home in Mumbai’s Navy Nagar on Saturday, with police suspecting that the sailor died by suicide while his family members may have died due to poisoning.
The Cuffe Parade Police Station received information on August 15 about a man found hanging at a residence in Navy Nagar, Colaba. When police reached the spot, they found the sailor’s wife and their two children dead on a bed.

The deceased have been identified as Puranmal Shambhulal Mehra, 30, his wife Oma Puranmal Mehra, 28, their three-year-old son Yash Puranmal Mehra and their two-month-old daughter.
According to the police, Mehra was found hanging, while the bodies of his wife, son and infant daughter were found on the bed.
Prima facie, the police suspect that Mehra committed suicide by hanging, while his wife and two children may have died due to poisoning. No suicide note has been recovered from the scene, according to the police.
The bodies were taken to JJ Hospital in Mumbai through the Cuffe Parade police mobile unit. The inquest panchnama has been completed and post-mortem examinations are underway. The exact cause of death will be established after the post-mortem and further investigation.
An accidental death report has been registered by the Cuffe Parade Police Station. Police are conducting further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The Indian Navy confirmed the deaths, saying that an Indian Navy sailor, along with his wife and two children, was found dead at their residence in Navy Nagar on August 15.
“In an unfortunate incident at Navy Nagar, Colaba, an Indian Navy sailor along with his wife and 2 children have been found dead at their residence on 15 Aug 26,” the Navy said in a statement.
“Investigation is in progress by the Police and the Indian Navy is extending all possible assistance towards the same,” it added.
The police investigation is continuing and further details are awaited.
