Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has reached Nepal to extend support to those affected by the devastating floods in the country. Talking to India Today from the flood-hit areas, the actor spoke about the scale of destruction and appealed to people across the world to come forward and help those in need.
Giving a glimpse of the situation on the ground, Sonu said the extent of the devastation becomes evident when one sees the affected areas firsthand. He highlighted how several people have been left without homes and stressed the need for immediate support.

“Mujhe lagta hai ye poora manzar dekhte hain toh aapko pata hoga ki kis level ka impact aaya hoga. Kis taraf jab logon ke ghar nahi bache toh logon ke kya haal hue hain. Sab logon ko aagey aana chahiye. Duniya bhar se jo log jahan par bhi hain, aagey aayein aur please madad karein. In logon ke liye khada hona bahut zaroori hai taaki hum Nepal ko uske kadmon par khada karna,” Sood said.
(I think when you see this entire scene, you can understand the kind of impact it must have had. When people have lost their homes, you can imagine what they must be going through. Everyone should come forward. People from all over the world, wherever they are, should step up and please help. It is very important to stand with these people so that we can help Nepal get back on its feet.)
The actor pointed out the places devastated by the flash floods and said, “Aap abhi bhi dekh sakte hain ki paani ka kya bahaav hai aur uss samay paani toh bahut peeche tak tha. Upar malbe tak log pahunch chuke hain. so, it’s sad.” (You can still see how strong the flow of the water is, and at that time, the water had reached much farther back. People have now reached the debris-covered areas as well. So, it’s sad.)
As he assesses the situation on the ground, the Happy New Year actor said his team is working with several organisations to understand the challenges faced by those affected and ensure help reaches them.
The 53-year-old actor also shared pictures from Nepal, where he interacted with the locals and assured complete help.
“They lost their homes, their families, their childhood but together, we will help them find a new beginning. Nepal, you are not alone (sic).”
Nepal’s devastating flood disaster has claimed 1,093 lives, while nearly 4,000 people remain missing and more than 11,900 have been rescued, according to the latest update from the disaster management authority.
In Nuwakot’s Betrabati area, rescuers recovered 23 bodies from a single house. Meanwhile, 13 more bodies were recovered from India’s Gandak River and are being prepared to be handed over to Nepal.
Around 350 students from Uttargaya village in Rasuwa are reportedly missing. Rescue operations at the Trishuli 3A hydropower project remained stalled for another day, while workers at hydropower projects continue to be among those unaccounted for.
