India firmly rejected any third-party involvement in its border dispute with Nepal, responding to remarks by Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah that China and the United Kingdom should be included in efforts to resolve the decades-old issue.
Speaking at the Ministry of External Affairs’ weekly briefing, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, on Tuesday, said boundary-related matters between India and Nepal are strictly bilateral and are being addressed through existing mechanisms established by the two countries.

“We have established bilateral mechanisms to deal with all aspects of boundary matters. It should be clear to all concerned that there is no role for any third parties in a bilateral matter between India and Nepal,” Randhir Jaiswal said.
The response came days after Balendra Shah told Nepal’s Parliament that Kathmandu was in contact with both China and Britain regarding the border dispute with India. He argued that Britain should be involved because the issue traces its roots to the colonial-era boundaries drawn during British rule in the region.
“Since this problem dates from the time when British India left the region, it is our view that England should be involved in this matter,” Shah said.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
