A paralysed elderly man in Odisha’s Boudh district survived a terrifying four-hour ordeal after a venomous snake wrapped itself around his hand while he lay helpless in bed, leaving his family and neighbours stunned.
The incident took place in Adenigarh village under Harabhanga block and involved Krushna Chandra Sahu, an elderly resident who has limited mobility following a stroke.
According to family members, the incident unfolded late at night while Sahu was asleep. A window in the room had reportedly been left open, allowing a snake to enter the house unnoticed.

At some point during the night, the reptile crawled onto the bed and over Sahu’s body. He soon realised a snake was moving across him, but his paralysis made it impossible for him to react quickly or move away.
As he attempted to shift slightly, the situation became even more dangerous. The snake reportedly coiled itself around one of his hands and wrapped part of its body around a nearby chair, effectively trapping him in place.
Unable to free himself, Sahu remained frozen for hours, fearing that any sudden movement might provoke the snake into biting him. With his mobility severely restricted, he could do little but wait and hope for help.
Family members eventually noticed something was wrong and rushed to the room. They were shocked to find the elderly man trapped by the reptile, which remained tightly wrapped around his hand and the chair.

Aware that a hasty rescue attempt could trigger an attack, the family chose not to forcefully remove the snake. Instead, they carefully monitored the situation and planned their next steps while ensuring the reptile was not disturbed.
After nearly four tense hours, the family finally managed to free Sahu from the snake’s grip without provoking it.
Remarkably, despite remaining in such close proximity to the venomous reptile for several hours, Sahu escaped without a single bite or major injury. He is reported to be safe and recovering from the shock of the incident.
The unusual episode has become a major talking point in the village, with many residents describing it as nothing short of miraculous.
