Wild footage has emerged of explosions breaking out on a Melbourne train due to a power fault, with passengers left trapped inside as lengthy delays break out along the city’s Metro Train line.

A warning on Transport Victoria’s web page states passengers along the Craigieburn line are facing delays of up to an hour due to an overhead power fault in the North Melbourne.

“All services will run direct from Flinders Street to Southern Cross, not via the City Loop,” the warning continues.

Footage obtained by 9News shows explosions and sparks breaking out aboard a carriage, as passengers take shelter.
