A wedding in Punjab’s Firozpur took an unexpected turn after the bride refused to marry the groom upon seeing him at the wedding venue. The wedding procession, which had arrived from Chhatargarh in Rajasthan, eventually returned without the bride.
According to the information available, the wedding rituals and pheras had not yet begun when the bride saw the groom and refused to go ahead with the marriage.

The bride alleged that she had been shown a photograph of another boy before the wedding. She claimed that a different man was presented as the groom at the wedding venue.
The groom’s family, however, gave a different account. They said the marriage had been arranged with the consent of both families and that the two sides had remained in contact through mobile phones before the wedding.
Mahendra Singh, the groom’s maternal grandfather, said the groom’s photographs had been provided by the mediators and the bride’s mother.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Guru Har Sahai, Tejinderpal Singh, said the police had received a complaint from the groom’s family two days earlier and had started an investigation. Both sides presented their statements during the proceedings.
The DSP said the two sides later resolved the matter among themselves.
