Police have swarmed the home of American celebrity blogger Perez Hilton after a graphic livestream appeared to show him engaging in self-harm.
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls about a person livestreaming acts of self-harm at a Miami home on Tuesday night local time, and confirmed Hilton was involved.
The video, which has since been removed and led to the suspension of his TikTok account, reportedly showed the naked blogger cutting himself.
The footage appeared to contain significant amounts of blood.
He was later taken to hospital by ambulance, according to NBC 6 South Florida.
Police confirmed the father-of-three was alone inside the home at the time and they had spoken with family members at the scene.
Deputies later decided to “tactically disengage” while continuing to monitor the situation.
“In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritise de-escalation by creating time, distance and opportunities for communication,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
“Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilising crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimise the risk of injury to the individual, deputies and the public.”
Hilton’s company, Golden Artists Entertainment, said it was aware of the “concerning content circulating online involving our client, Perez Hilton”.
“At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him,” the company told TMZ.
“Our primary concern is Perez’s health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family.
“Until we have confirmed information, we will not speculate or comment further.
“We appreciate everyone’s concern and ask that his privacy be respected during this time.”
Hilton was one of the earliest and most influential celebrity gossip bloggers.
He rose to prominence in the mid-2000s through his website PerezHilton.com, which became known for its coverage of entertainment news.
Earlier this year, he revealed he had spent weeks in hospital after developing severe sepsis following an ulcer.
Months later, he was hospitalised again after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his leg and underwent surgery to remove a blood clot.
