A political rivalry during the civic elections in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district turned violent in Dholpur Municipal Council, where former councillor Ramu Sharma alias Rajmohan Sharma, husband of woman councillor candidate Kalpana Sharma, suffered a serious attack allegedly involving members of the rival side contesting the election.
The attack left Ramu Sharma seriously injured, and doctors referred him to Agra for treatment. His family alleged that members of the other side assaulted him, opened fire in the air and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons. Ramu Sharma suffered multiple fractures in the attack.

Ward No. 26 has seen a direct electoral contest between candidates from the families of former councillor Kookku Sharma alias Vedprakash and former councillor Ramu alias Rajmohan Sharma. The two families have a long-standing electoral rivalry.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, the two major political parties, did not give tickets to candidates from either side because of the rivalry. The candidates from both families entered the electoral contest independently.
After the attack, the accused fled the spot.
Following information about the incident, Dholpur Police official Pradeep Nehra and SHO Ramkishan Yadav reached the scene with police personnel. Police conducted raids at possible hideouts while searching for the accused, but could not trace the attackers.
Nehra said Rajmohan Sharma was meeting people along with three to four supporters in Ward No 26 when Kookku Sharma alias Vedprakash arrived with another three to four people. According to Nehra, Kookku Sharma and the others attacked Ramu Sharma with sticks, batons and iron rods, leaving him injured.
Police referred Ramu Sharma to Agra for treatment and recorded his statement. His family filed a complaint, following which police registered a case.
Nehra said police teams have been formed to arrest the accused and that the cyber team will assist in tracking them down. Police identified the old electoral rivalry between the two sides as the reason behind the dispute.
The case names former councillor Kookku Sharma and four other accused, all of whom remain absconding.
