Actors Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at their residence in Hyderabad on Monday to raise concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology in the film industry. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy was also present at the meeting.

Ram Charan later said Shah had responded positively and assured them that the government would urgently examine the impact of such technologies on artists and work towards stronger safeguards. The meeting came as Ram Charan began work on his next pan-India film with director Sukumar, tentatively titled RC17.

Ram Charan and Sukumar begin RC17

Meanwhile, Ram Charan is reuniting with Sukumar for their second film together. Tentatively titled RC17, the project was officially launched with a traditional prayer ceremony in Hyderabad on Sunday. The announcement follows the setbacks of Game Changer and Peddi, after the success of RRR.

The ceremony began at around 10.50 am, with Ram Charan arriving at the venue and greeting the team. He lit the ceremonial lamp, while Chiranjeevi performed the traditional coconut-breaking ritual. Chiranjeevi, who attended as the Special Guest of Honour, then sounded the ceremonial clapboard and blessed the team.

The makers shared a video from the launch on their official social media handles. “The journey of #RC17 begins with the MEGA CLAP Megastar @KChiruTweets sounded the clapboard and blessed the entire team of #RC17,” Mythri Movie Makers wrote.

The ceremony was also attended by Sukumar and his wife, producers Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni, and filmmakers Naga Vamsi, Rahul Sankrityan, Gopichand Malineni, Maruthi, Buchi Babu Sana, Vamsi Nandipati and Harish Shankar, among others.

Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar are producing the film under the Mythri Movie Makers banner, while Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series is presenting it. Cinematographer Ratnavelu, who previously worked with Sukumar on Rangasthalam, has also joined the project.

Ram Charan expressed his excitement about working with Sukumar again. “This one is extremely special. So happy to collaborate with my dearest @aryasukku once again. #RC17 journey begins #YouCanImagine #RC2Sukku,” he wrote on Instagram.

The actor and director first worked together on the 2018 rural drama Rangasthalam, which featured Samantha Ruth Prabhu and became a major box-office success. RC17 was first announced in March 2024, when Ram Charan shared a photograph with Sukumar during Holi.
