A tradie who was almost killed when his robotic vacuum exploded in the kitchen faces a “long road ahead” after being released from hospital.

Lachie Perrem, 27, was placed into an induced coma for two weeks when he suffered burns to 75 per cent of his body during the blast at his Brabham home, in Perth’s northeast, about 5pm on July 2 this year.

He was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital in a critical condition and was released last month.

His mum Fiona Perrem provided an update on her son’s condition on GoFundMe, saying he still required dressing changes multiples time a week, but finally seeing her son home was a huge milestone.

“After everything he has been through and so many surgeries, seeing him finally home is such an incredible feeling.” she said.

“We are so incredibly proud of how far he has come.

“His strength, determination and courage throughout this whole journey has been nothing short of amazing.”

His family have been raising money for Mr Perrem, who has been unable to work since the life-threatening incident.

More than $46,000 has been raised for the tradie to help him with rehabilitation costs, car repayments, bills and other expenses during his “difficult journey”.

“The explosion left Lachie, his fiancee, and their housemates without a home,” Ms Perrem said.

“Along with his long road to recovery, they now face the heartbreaking task of rebuilding their lives from scratch.”

Firefighters told NewsWire they believed the explosion was “accidental due to a fault in a robotic vacuum cleaner”.

The device was sent to Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety for further investigation,” a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said.
