Salman Khan is back on Koffee With Karan for its ninth season, with the makers confirming that he will be the first guest on the show’s final edition. The new season is set to premiere on JioHotstar from October 14, and a promo released on Monday put Salman and host Karan Johar together in the spotlight again.
The promo also set the tone for the season’s opening episode. In it, Karan says, “Yeh season kahi bhi jaa sakta hai (This season could go either way.)” Salman replies, “Jaa hi sakta hai. Ye to gaya hai, gaya hai (Yes, it can. It has gone, definitely gone.” The caption on the post read, “One last timea koffee with the one & only bhaii (sic).”

Salman’s appearance comes as Karan Johar prepares to bring the long-running celebrity chat show to a close.
The Bollywood superstar last appeared on Koffee With Karan in Season 5 in 2016, alongside his brothers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. The episode, which marked the show’s 100th instalment, revisited his much-discussed debut appearance in Season 4, when he claimed that he was still a virgin. When Karan Johar brought up the remark again, Salman maintained that nothing had changed. The episode also featured the brothers sharing anecdotes about their childhood and revealing how they would share clothes and even underwear while growing up.
Other stars in the lineup are yet to be confirmed.
In an earlier teaser for the upcoming season, the filmmaker-host addressed the camera directly while taking phone calls and said the show was ending for good.
“You heard it right. It is going to be my last season of Koffee With Karan. I’m not acting, I’m not pretending. It is my last,” Johar says in the video. When a caller tells him the show should have ended a decade ago, he responds, “Thank you for asking, but I haven’t invited you for eight seasons, so I don’t plan to invite you for the ninth.”
Johar also addressed speculation around the guest line-up in the teaser. “No, no, no, cricketers are not invited. They are also not coming,” he says. The remark directly referenced the fallout from Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul’s 2019 appearance on the show, which had triggered widespread backlash and brief suspensions for the two cricketers.
He ended the teaser on a light note, saying, “Darling, it’s my last season of Koffee With Karan. Why would I do anything controversial?”
A show that shaped entertainment headlines
Premiering in November 2004, Koffee With Karan has been Karan Johar’s flagship celebrity chat show. Built around a couch-style format, the series blended industry gossip and personal confessions with recurring segments such as the “Rapid Fire Round”.
Over the years, the show moved from television to digital streaming and regularly made entertainment headlines. It also sparked wider industry conversations, including debates around nepotism, while some episodes drew controversy beyond the film industry.
