The investigation into the gang rape of a 30-year-old woman in Bihar’s Begusarai district intensified on Thursday after fresh details emerged from the victim’s family, prompting senior police officials to step in and closely monitor the case.

According to the survivor’s husband, the incident took place on the night of June 11 when the woman stepped out into the courtyard to use the toilet. He alleged that five men from the same village overpowered her and sexually assaulted her. The husband claimed he was locked inside a room during the incident and was unable to help his wife.

The victim’s family has named three of the accused as Ram Babu Nishad, Suraj Kumar and Nitish Kumar, while two others remain unidentified. The husband alleged that the accused are known criminals in the area and have previously been involved in theft and other offences.

The case has drawn widespread attention after the woman alleged that she was subjected to extreme brutality during the assault. According to police and medical sources, doctors later recovered foreign objects during her treatment, leading investigators to examine additional aspects of the case.

ACCUSED HAD ALLEGEDLY TARGETED FAMILY EARLLIER

The victim’s husband further claimed that some of the accused had allegedly targeted the family earlier this year. According to him, in March, several men had entered their home and attempted to sexually assault his wife. When the attempt failed, they allegedly assaulted family members and looted valuables from the house. A police case was registered in connection with that incident.

The husband alleged that despite the earlier FIR, the accused secured bail and subsequently targeted the woman again. He also accused the local police of failing to take effective action in the earlier case, an allegation that authorities have not yet commented on.

Police had registered a rape case on June 13 against three named accused and two unidentified persons. Following the emergence of new allegations and developments in the medical examination, senior officers, including DSP-rank officials, have been stationed at the district hospital to record statements and gather evidence.

Begusarai Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar also visited the hospital and reviewed the progress of the investigation. Police said all allegations are being examined and further action will be taken based on medical, forensic and other evidence collected during the probe.

The investigation remains underway.
