Sarah Michelle Gellar got “totally terrorised” as a child by Crystal Lake writer Brad Kane.
The 49-year-old actress has recalled a spooky Halloween memory from her childhood which involved a boy who has gone onto become the mind behind the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series.
She told PEOPLE magazine: “I got totally terrorised by an older boy in my best friend’s building.
“Our moms were friends. He made it his mission that year to really terrorise us.”
The older boy in question was Brad, who was even dressed up as Friday the 13th monster Jason Voorhees.
Sarah added: “He had a Jason mask on. He terrorised us up and down the stairwell in New York City in the Jason mask.
“And who would’ve known that all these years later now he created the new Jason show? So Brad, I forgive you.”
Meanwhile, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star admitted she feels lucky to have projects which have withstood “the test of time”, and it’s always “fun” being surprised by which of her roles are quoted by fans.
She said: “I actually had the greatest one happen to me the other day. My son’s a race car driver and we were at a race all the way up in Los Olivos, and I was walking out of a store with my daughter and this guy came up to me and he’s like, ‘Excuse me, are you…’
“I went to look up and he’s like, ‘In my way.’ And he was quoting Stop That Train. And I was so excited because it was the first time I had ever gotten Stop That Train.
“And I called [director] Adam Shankman right away and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, the best thing just happened to me.’”
Although Sarah’s childhood friend Blake is bringing the Friday the 13th franchise back for a new audience, she is still disappointed after her planned Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival was shelved.
During the Emmy Awards earlier this month, Sarah and co-star David Boreanaz took to the stage to present the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie to Matthew Rhys for The Beast in Me.
The pair began by poking fun at the premise of Buffy, with Sarah saying: “A teenage girl chosen by fate to fight vampires, demons and forces of darkness, and then she falls in love with a vampire with a soul carrying around a couple hundred years of regret.
“A much, much older vampire with a soul and agonising remorse about his past. For those of you who don’t know, his character was 241 years old.”
David, who played Buffy’s on-off love interest Angel in the beloved TV show, then said: “You know, Sarah, I always thought Buffy and Angel would end up together.”
In a pointed nod to the fact that a pilot for the show reboot hadn’t been picked up, Sarah added: “Well, I guess we won’t find out!”
