At least three people were critically injured after two multi-storey buildings collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sunday, trapping several people, including students, under the rubble.
Four people have been rescued so far. Three of the injured are undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre and remain in critical condition.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, CATS and Civil Defence deployed at the site.

At least 12 fire tenders were pressed into service after authorities received information about the collapse at 1.33 pm. The exact number of people trapped remained unclear.
An eyewitness said one of the collapsed structures was a five-storey boys’ paying guest accommodation named “Hostel Daze”. An adjoining building also collapsed, trapping students inside their rooms, the eyewitness further claimed.
The precise number of trapped students could be determined only after the PG’s registration records were checked, the eyewitness said. Rescuers were pulling people from the rubble with great difficulty.
Satya Niketan is located near Delhi University’s South Campus and has several PG accommodations housing students from across the country.
BJP MLA from RK Puram Anil Kumar Sharma described the incident as “extremely tragic” and said students from different regions had been staying in the collapsed PG.
“Just now, two children were pulled out, and teams from the disaster management forces, MCD and the police department have rushed them to the hospital,” Sharma was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said rescue operations were being carried out on a war footing. She added that a nearby building had been evacuated as a precaution.
“Every possible effort is being made to safely rescue those trapped and provide immediate assistance to the affected families,” she said in a post on X.
Members of student organisations, including the NSUI and AISA, also reached the site to assist with the rescue efforts.
