According to his family, Adarsh had returned to his village on August 22 to attend a ceremony.
His father, Pramod Mishra, who works as a contract lineman with the electricity department, personally saw him off on a bus to Lucknow the next day.
The family said Adarsh spoke normally with his parents over the phone on Tuesday morning.
A few hours later, however, they received a call from his friends informing them that his condition had deteriorated and that he had been admitted to a hospital.
By the time his family reached Lucknow, Adarsh had died during treatment on Wednesday.
Police recovered the note from his room and sent his body for post-mortem examination.
A police officer said the initial investigation suggested that a dispute at home had led to mental stress.
Police are examining call records and electronic evidence to determine the circumstances that preceded his death.
