Australia’s youngest federal politician has been fined for speeding while driving a taxpayer-funded parliamentary vehicle in South Australia.
Charlotte Walker, now 22, was caught travelling 8km/h over the speed limit on November 13, 2025.
A spokesperson for Ms Walker said she had “regrettably incurred” the speeding fine and had since paid it.
The car was a privately plated vehicle supplied under the federal parliamentary fleet scheme, which allows MPs and senators to use taxpayer-funded vehicles for both official duties and personal travel.
Ms Walker also paid an administrative processing fee charged through Ministerial and Parliamentary Services because the vehicle was part of the fleet.
Ms Walker entered the Senate in 2025 at just 21 after Labor’s sweeping election victory, drawing national attention as the country’s youngest federal politician.
Before entering parliament, she worked in retail, childcare administration, private health insurance, political staffing and with the Australian Services Union, and has spoken publicly about growing up in a household where money was often tight.
