It looked straight out of Akshay Kumar-starrer Bollywood blockbuster Special 26.

A group of men and women turned up at a businessman’s house in Delhi’s Rohini, claiming to be CBI officers. They had ‘CBI logos’ on their uniform and also showed their purported identity cards. They said they had come to conduct a raid.

Yet, they were denied entry into the house. The family did not open the gate as the businessman’s wife grew suspicious of them.

What followed was a nearly 90-minute standoff outside the house.

The incident took place on August 20. Three days later, the Delhi Police cracked the case, arresting three members of the gang, including two women. The accused have been identified as Pooja, Asifa and Kuldeep.

The incident bore an uncanny resemblance to the 2013 Bollywood film Special 26, in which a group of men posing as CBI officers carry out fake raids.

THE ‘CBI RAID’ THAT NEVER HAPPENED

After the impostors showed logos and identity cards, the family members asked for a search warrant and other valid documents.

Soon, the neighbours gathered around. They started demanding that the group show the documents authorising the raid. The group said that the notice was in the car.

As the pressure intensified, the group soon left the premises without stepping into the house.

THEN CAME THE ‘WARRANT’

The drama did not end there.

According to the family, a notice purportedly carrying the name and signature of the CBI director was later sent to them on WhatsApp.

However, the message was subsequently deleted.

But the family had already taken a screenshot, which they handed over to the police along with the identity cards and CCTV footage of the incident.

The family had also called the police emergency number 112 while the suspects were outside. Police reached the spot.

The family later said that despite submitting a complaint and evidence, no immediate action was taken.

THREE ARRESTED, MORE SUSPECTS ON THE RUN

Three days later, the case took a major turn.

Delhi Police arrested three people — Pooja, Asifa and Kuldeep — in connection with the alleged fake CBI raid. The investigators found a crucial link.

Among the arrested individuals, Kuldeep had previously worked at the same businessman’s premises. Police suspect that he deliberately targeted the house and helped plan the fake raid.

The group intended to exploit the fear associated with a CBI investigation and gain entry into the house.

But the plan collapsed at the gate.
