All about Varanasi
Varanasi is described as an epic time-travel adventure centred on a Shiva devotee who sets out on a perilous quest across time to uncover a lost cosmic artefact of immense power. As he discovers ancient secrets hidden across centuries, he learns that the force guiding his mission is a calculating mastermind with a vision of global domination.
Mahesh Babu, apart from playing the lead role of Rudhra, has also confirmed that he will portray Lord Rama in one of the film’s episodes. While Priyanka Chopra Jonas will be seen as Mandakini, Prithviraj Sukumaran will be seen as Kumbha. The project is being mounted on a large scale, with further cast details yet to be announced.
Here’s a glimpse:
There had earlier been speculation that the film would be released as a two-part project. Rajamouli has since said that Varanasi will be released as a single film with a runtime of around three hours.
Rajamouli had also recently drawn attention after comments led to speculation about Baahubali 3. In the documentary series Baahubali: The Torchbearer, Prabhas, Rana Daggubati and Anushka Sharma hinted at the possibility of a third instalment in the franchise, though no further updates have been shared so far.
With Varanasi still on track for its April 7, 2027 release, the filming is expected to be completed by September or October 2026.
