Western Australia’s premier tarmac motorsport event is set to roar back into action this September with the event expecting its biggest field of competitors in over a decade.
The four-day endurance rally will take place across Perth and surrounds from September 17 until 20, with organisers predicting a record number of entries in 12 years as interest in the event continues to grow.
The Lance East Exotics Tarmac West Rally event is backed by Lance East Exotics for the third consecutive year as naming rights partner.
Lance East Exotics dealership sales manager Michael Lanzetta said the business was proud to continue supporting the event.
“As we return as naming rights partner for a third consecutive year, Lance East Exotics is proud to continue backing Tarmac West, an event that brings together world-class competition, incredible machinery and a passionate community of motorsport fans,” he said.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of fans to another unforgettable celebration of motorsport this September.”
Drivers will compete against the clock across around 215km of closed roads over four days, with stages taking place at locations including Whiteman Park, Ellenbrook, Parkerville, Kalamunda, Toodyay, Maryville Downs, Bullsbrook, Malaga and Perth’s CBD.
Motorsport fans will be able to catch the action at several spectator-friendly locations, including Ellenbrook on Thursday evening, September 17, Malaga on Sunday morning, September 20, and the rally’s city finale in the heart of Perth that afternoon.
The event will feature a mix of technical stages for precision driving and longer flowing sections where competitors can push their cars to the limits.
Tarmac Events WA director Ross Tapper said growing support for rally competitions in WA had helped drive increased entries.
“Tarmac West has a long history of well-organised, safe events, which instils confidence in competitors, and we’re seeing that with increased entries,” he said.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Lance East Exotics, their support and those of all our sponsors are highly valued and absolutely crucial for us to be able to run events.”
A new Modified Classics category will also debut this year, opening competition to cars manufactured up to and including 1989.
The event remains open to rally cars, while a category for standard road cars will give enthusiasts the opportunity to take part in the competition.
The Time Speed Distance category, introduced in 2024, will again cater for standard vehicles, with drivers and co-drivers required to wear helmets and hold an Australian Auto-Sport Alliance General Speed Licence.
Rather than racing for outright speed, TSD competitors must complete each stage as close as possible to the allocated time, with greater penalties applied for finishing early than finishing late.
