Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane has hinted he wants stay beyond this season at Germany’s champion club after being awarded the Golden Shoe as Europe’s top league scorer last term with 36 Bundesliga goals.

“A lot of hard work goes into winning an award like this,” Kane told the award ceremony held in the Bayern Museum at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, thanking his teammates after winning the award for the second time in three seasons.

“I try to help the team as best I can. Last season was outstanding and I’m very proud. It was the best season of my career so far. I feel very much at home at Bayern and within the team. We’re always aiming high and we want to do the same this season.”

England’s captain has one year left on his contract and will talk to the club soon about a possible extension to stay in the Bundesliga.

“The league is very attack-minded; even if you’re leading 2-0 or 3-0, the game can still be turned on its head. It’s not just us – you see it everywhere; it’s a league for strikers,” Kane added.

“Lots of players want to show what they’re made of and score goals, which suits us down to the ground – we want to do the same and win.”

Teammate Joshua Kimmich said in a video aired at the ceremony: “He’s not just important because of his crucial goals, but also because of his assists. And because he fights and defends.”

Ahead of the ceremony, Bayern bosses swooned over Kane’s achievements and said he should now be in line for the Ballon d’Or as the world’s best player, which will be awarded in London on October 26.

Bayern chief executive Christian Dreesen told German magazine Sport Bild: “One thing is clear: anyone talking about the biggest individual awards this year cannot ignore Harry Kane. Harry is a world star without the trappings of stardom and one of the best strikers of the 21st century.”

Captain Kane led England to the World Cup semi-finals with six goals and only a late Argentina comeback stopped the Three Lions making the final. Bayern also reached the Champions League semi-finals last term, with Kane scoring 14 goals.

His rivals for the Ballon d’Or are expected to be France’s Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe, Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Spain’s World Cup-winning duo Rodri and Lamine Yamal.
