Three men have been arrested after a luxury car allegedly carrying a lethal payload was intercepted by police in the dead of night.
The trio were spotted sitting inside a grey Maserati by officers from Cumberland Police Area Command as they patrolled Lansdowne St in Parramatta, about 1.50am on Wednesday.
The car, which was allegedly displaying cloned number plates, had reportedly been stolen from a home in Ashfield in August.
The three men aged 28, 26 and 24 were ordered out of the vehicle and arrested at the scene.
While still at the scene, police searched the vehicle and allegedly found a bag of ammunition, a jerry can of petrol, a sledgehammer and a spray bottle full of bleach.
The Maserati was seized by police to undergo forensic examination, and the three men were taken to Parramatta Police Station.
The 28-year-old was charged with contributing to a criminal activity as part of a criminal group, driving without a license, using a vehicle with false number plates, driving a stolen vehicle, riding as a passenger in a stolen vehicle, and failing to disclose his details.
The 26-year-old and the 24-year-old were both charged with riding in a stolen vehicle and participating in a group criminal activity.
All three men were refused bail and will appear in court on Thursday.
