US President Donald Trump’s camera being switched off during a virtual G7 leaders’ meeting became an unexpected talking point online after a screenshot showed him as the only participant without a visible video feed.
The screenshot was shared on X by Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), after he joined the G7 leaders’ virtual meeting hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. The meeting focused on global energy markets and severe pressures on diesel supplies.

The image showed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and Japanese Vice Minister Kazuya Endo on camera.
Trump’s tile, however, appeared dark with his name displayed instead.
Take a look at the post here:
That small detail was enough to send social media users into joke mode. Some speculated that Trump might have been taking a nap, while others blamed the missing video feed on a possible “bad hair day”.
Another user suggested he might simply have been having a bad hair day, while a third gave him the benefit of the doubt and joked that he may have been napping.
There is, however, no evidence that Trump was sleeping during the meeting. It is also unclear whether his camera remained switched off throughout the call or was off only when Fatih Birol captured the screenshot.
Away from the social-media jokes, the meeting itself centred on the global energy situation, particularly pressure on diesel supplies. Birol said the IEA had outlined options available to G7 countries to help stabilise energy supplies and strengthen longer-term energy security.
