The incident took place at a private residential school in Jheel Ka Purwa under the Kotwali Nagar area of Banda, where the two children were staying in the hostel and studying.

The deceased have been identified as 12-year-old Nitin, a resident of Sarswah under Girwan police station, and eight-year-old Arun Kumar, son of Pushkar, a resident of Tindwari town.

According to the information available, both children suddenly fell ill late on Sunday night. The school administration rushed them to hospital for treatment.

Doctors at the district hospital treated the children, but both died during treatment. According to ASP Banda Shivraj, one child was declared dead at the district hospital, while the other was declared dead at Banda Medical College.

“The school management immediately took the children to hospital for treatment after their health deteriorated during the night,” Shivraj said.

The children’s families said the two had eaten momos with finger chutney on the evening of August 16. They said the children developed severe stomach pain later that night, after which their health deteriorated.

Police are suspecting possible food poisoning, although the exact cause of death has not yet been established.

The deaths triggered panic at the school, while the children’s families were informed by the school administration. Relatives who reached the hospital were left devastated after seeing the bodies of the children.

Following the deaths, police took both bodies into custody and sent them to the mortuary for post-mortem examination. The examination is expected to help establish the cause of death.

ASP Shivraj said, “A 12-year-old and an eight-year-old child fell ill during the night at a residential school in Kotwali Nagar. The school management immediately took them for treatment. One child was declared dead at the district hospital and the other at Banda Medical College.”

“The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and the matter is being investigated,” he added.

Police have begun further legal action and are examining the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths.
