Two people are in custody after police swarmed a major entertainment precinct in Sydney.

In a statement, NSW Police said specialist officers responded to reports of a man carrying a firearm within the Moore Park Entertainment Quarter, in the city’s east, about 4.45pm on Monday.

“On arrival, officers located two men, one of which allegedly wearing a bullet proof vest and carrying a firearm,” a police spokesperson said.

“The two men, aged 39 and 35, were arrested and a replica firearm, a vest, and a badge was seized.”

Both were taken to Surry Hills Police Station where inquiries are ongoing.

The public were urged to stay away as witnesses reported seeing dozens of police vehicles swarm the area.

“There is no ongoing threat to public safety,” a police spokesman said.

The precinct is kilometres from Sydney’s CBD and is home to the Sydney Cricket Ground, Hordern Pavilion and Allianz Stadium along with eateries and other recreational venues.
