A woman and her five-year-old daughter died after a fire broke out at a grocery shop on the ground floor of their house in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district on Thursday morning. The woman’s husband, Ankur Jain, also suffered burn injuries in the blaze and is currently in critical condition.
According to preliminary information, the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. The flames quickly spread through the shop, while thick smoke engulfed the building. The family members staying upstairs did not realise that a fire had broken out. By the time they became aware of it, escaping from the building had become difficult.

Residents soon rushed to the spot after hearing a blast-like sound in the morning. They saw thick smoke billowing from the building and flames engulfing the premises, following which they alerted the local police and administrative officials.
A rescue operation was launched shortly afterwards. However, the woman and her daughter could not be saved. Ankur was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
A probe into the incident has been launched. It has also come to light that the grocery shop is owned by Vinay Jain, Ankur’s father.
