Two United Airlines pilots preparing for separate departures at Washington Dulles International Airport in the US shared a sweet moment over the radio after the father suddenly recognised his daughter’s voice.

Kent and Kenny Katnik, the father-daughter duo, happened to be on the runway on September 1 when Kent heard a familiar voice during an air traffic control exchange. The sweet interaction was later shared by United Airlines on Instagram.

“Pops?” a pilot was heard saying.

Kent immediately recognised his daughter, who was preparing to depart as the pilot of CommuteAir Flight 4977, a regional operator for United Express. He was at the controls of United Flight 108.

“Hello! Where are you at?” he asked. “About to depart one-right. Safe travels,” she replied.

“Bye, bye,” her father said, ending the brief but unmistakably affectionate exchange.

The moment then took an even more personal turn when air traffic control joined in, asking Kent if he was a “proud papa” of his pilot daughter.

“Sort of,” he quipped.

The controller then asked whether his daughter still lived at home. Kent quickly clarified that she had moved out, but revealed one family tie that remained intact, she was still on the family cell phone plan.

“She’s not allowed off the cell phone plan until she gets married,” air traffic control joked.

And it seems that arrangement could continue for some time.

The daughter then chimed in with a detail of her own, declaring that she was “still single” before the exchange came to an end.

What began as two pilots preparing for separate departures became a tiny family reunion over the airwaves, complete with a proud father, a teasing air traffic controller and a daughter who made sure everyone knew she was still very much part of the family phone plan.
