A waterfall appears to drop straight out of a sky painted in rainbow colours in a video filmed inside a vast cave in Brazil.
A shimmering stream of water falls against a backdrop of a lush forest, while a circular band of colour glows around the Sun, creating a stellar optical illusion.
The video was filmed at Casa de Pedra cave in Iporanga, in Brazil’s Sao Paulo state. The cave is located inside Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park, a protected area known for its extensive cave systems and forest trails.

Casa de Pedra is hard to ignore because of its enormous entrance, which rises roughly 170 to 200 metres high.
From deep inside the cave, the opening frames the forest and sky beyond it, illustrating the scale and beauty of the natural event that unfolded and was captured on camera.
In the footage, a thin stream of water pours down through the centre of the opening. Above it, a colourful ring circles the Sun, with another rainbow-like arc visible lower in the sky.
Together, the water and colours make it appear as though rain is falling directly from the rainbow itself.
WHAT MADE WATER POUR FROM THE SKY?
The trick here is the illusion, which makes it seem as if the water is falling from the sky. That’s not what is happening.
It flows from a natural crack in the rock face above the cave entrance. Viewed from inside the cave, the falling stream appears aligned with the open sky, producing the visual effect.
Sunlight reflecting off the water droplets makes them sparkle as they descend towards the river below.
The colourful ring around the Sun is an atmospheric optical phenomenon known as a solar halo. It forms when sunlight passes through tiny ice crystals in high-altitude clouds, bending the light into a circular band.
The lower rainbow, meanwhile, can form when sunlight passes through water droplets in the mist created by the falling stream.
These separate natural phenomena happen to overlap in the footage, creating the impression of a rainbow-coloured sky pouring water into the cave.
Videos of the scene have circulated through weather channels and social media, drawing attention to the unusual combination of a towering cave entrance, falling water and colourful atmospheric effects.
