A woman has been charged after a man was allegedly randomly stabbed outside a cinema in a busy inner-city suburb.

Emergency services were called to the Dendy Newtown cinema on King St in Sydney’s inner-west about 11.40am on Monday following reports of an assault.

Police said a 48-year-old man had allegedly been stabbed in the hand by an unknown woman.

Officers later found a 26-year-old woman allegedly armed with a knife.

They demanded she drop the knife but when she failed to heed their calls, she was tasered and arrested, NSW Police said.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The woman was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, resisting law enforcement in execution of duty and two counts of larceny.

She was refused bail to appear in court on Tuesday.
