A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle with the driver then fleeing scene in Melbourne’s south-east, prompting a major police investigation and a public appeal for witnesses.
Detectives are examining the fatal hit-run in Frankston South after emergency crews were called to Frankston-Flinders Rd, near Highland Dr, about 5.30am on Tuesday.
Police believe the vehicle involved was a dark-coloured SUV, which left the scene travelling west along Frankston-Flinders Rd.
The woman, who has not yet been formally identified, died at the scene.
Investigators are still working to piece together exactly what happened, with a crime scene in place and traffic disruptions expected to continue in the area for some time.
