From the Western Ghats to the hills of Meghalaya, these waterfalls are at their most beautiful during the rainy season.

1. DUDHSAGAR FALLS, GOA-KARNATAKA BORDER
Standing around 310 metres tall, Dudhsagar Falls becomes a roaring white cascade during the monsoon. Visitors can also explore nearby spice plantations, enjoy a jungle safari or catch a glimpse of the falls from the famous railway route.
2. JOG FALLS, KARNATAKA
Jog Falls is India’s tallest uninterrupted waterfall, dropping about 830 feet. The increased water flow during the monsoon makes it even more spectacular. The viewpoints and nearby wildlife areas add to the experience.
3. ATHIRAPPILLY FALLS, KERALA
Often called Kerala’s most famous waterfall, Athirappilly is about 80 feet high and 330 feet wide. During the rains, water rushes over rocky cliffs into the Chalakudy River, surrounded by lush forests.
4. NOHKALIKAI FALLS, MEGHALAYA
India’s tallest plunge waterfall drops around 1,115 feet into a deep pool below. During the monsoon, mist, clouds and green hills make this one of Meghalaya’s most scenic attractions.
5. SHIVANASAMUDRA FALLS, KARNATAKA
Created by the Cauvery River, Shivanasamudra splits into the Gaganachukki and Bharachukki falls. Heavy rains make both sections flow with tremendous force.
6. BHAGSU WATERFALL, HIMACHAL PRADESH
Located near McLeod Ganj, Bhagsu Waterfall is a peaceful escape. The waterfall becomes fuller during the monsoon, with cool mountain air and pine forests adding to its charm.
7. KUNE FALLS, MAHARASHTRA
This three-tier waterfall in Lonavala drops around 200 metres. During the rainy season, the surrounding hills turn lush green, making it a favourite stop for weekend travellers.
8. KEMPTY FALLS, UTTARAKHAND
Located near Mussoorie, Kempty Falls is known for its refreshing pool and scenic surroundings. Monsoon rains increase the water flow, making the falls even more attractive.
9. CHITRAKOTE FALLS, CHHATTISGARH
Known as the “Niagara of India”, Chitrakote Falls becomes enormous during the monsoon. Visitors should check weather and road conditions before planning a trip, as heavy rain can affect travel.
10. BAREHIPANI FALLS, ODISHA
Located inside Simlipal National Park, Barehipani Falls plunges about 1,309 feet through dense forests. The monsoon adds a huge volume of water, making it one of India’s most impressive waterfalls.
